The Liberty Mutual App with Coverage Compass - Encouraging customers to not read their policies

The Liberty Mutual commercials have been irritating. This latest one really caught my attention:

So Liberty Mutual isn't troubled that you don't read your policy, and in fact mocks the idea that you would do so. So they have a solution for you, their new phone app. Now you don't have to feel guilty about not reading your policy. Nope, your coverage information is now at your fingertips.

I wonder what their lawyers will say when a coverage situation develops, and Liberty Mutual has essentially recommended that their customers not read their policies? I wonder what happens when people come to depend on the phone app and use that against Liberty Mutual ("Hey, the app says I'm covered.")

Well, there's a little catch. Here's a screen grab at the end of the commercial:

Do you see the disclaimer? "Not all of your coverages are shown in Coverage Compass. For complete explanation of your coverage, please consult your Liberty Mutual sales representative and your policy."

Well, well, well. Isn't that interesting. Having just mocked the idea of you reading your policy, and then supplying the supposed remedy for that, Liberty Mutual takes it all back and refers you back to, surprise, your agent and your policy!

Liberty Mutual's commercials attempt to differentiate themselves from the competition by claiming some sort of unique status, or coverage that they offer, or in this instance, an app for your smart phone. Invariably the complaints they make against their supposedly inadequate competitors are the very same things they do themselves. They then trumpet the coverage that makes them "superior," but are actually nothing very different than the coverage options offered by their competitors.
